4 T-Shirt Decoration Options Custom T-shirts are probably the number one item sold across the whole nation. Walk into any store and you will see uniquely designed T-Shirts on the rack or wall. Every tourist shop has them... worldwide. So why not create your own?
Custom T-Shirts are great because they are usually easy to create and usually relatively inexpensive (check out our pricing) At Embroidery Works PLUS, we custom decorate your t-shirt 4 different ways; Screen Printing, Direct to Garment, Heat Transfer and our Online Design Tool.
The most popular is Traditional Screen Printing. Pricing is based on the number of colors in the image and the quantity of t-shirts you are screen printing. You will also typically pay a screen setup charge of $20 per screen for each color in each image.
The newest and most versitle is Direct to Garment. Where screen printing prints each color at a time, Direct to Garment prints all the colors at once on the t-shirt. To receive the best quality, Direct to Garment is limited to 100% cotton garments or bags as well.
The third option of Heat Transfer is mostly used on Sports jerseys for team names, player name and numbers.
Last but not least we allow you to create your own T-Shirt using our Design Tool, and purchase as few as ONE T-Shirt (more is usually better as you want to share your design with others). The Design Tool allows you to custom create your own T-Shirt using either your own image or design one beginning with one of the more than 1000 designs within the Design Tool. Once you finish the design, you purchase your shirts and they will be created for you and shipped from our manufacturer in Colorado right to your door. The tool is very easy to use and the number of options are great.
Need some ideas? Start the Design Tool and pick the type of T-Shirt you are interested in such as a white, light or a dark one. Then click on the "Clip Art" tab and choose one of the many suggestions that come your way. Add text, choose the font, choose how it looks on the shirt and place your order. We even ship it right to your door.

Screen Printing and Direct-To-Garment Printing
What is Screen Printing?
Screen printing is a form of printing using mesh screens coated in emulsion. An image is exposed onto the screen then washed out leaving the mesh clear where the image had been.
A pool of ink is then pulled across the the image on the mesh with a rubber bladed squeegee and the pressure forces the ink through the mesh and onto the substrate, producing the printed image.
Versatility is the major advantage in screen printing - as long as a surface is flat it can be printed!
Screen Printing is a great solution for higher volumes and when you must put an image on a dark shirt. Why? Screen printing can utilize a white base color on the dark shirt so the other colors remain vibrant.
Pricing is based on several factors:
-
Quantity of shirts/garments/item
-
Type of garment i.e.: t-shirt, sport shirt, sweatshirt, tank top, towel, tote, etc.
-
Long sleeve shirts are more expensive than short sleeve shirts.
-
Pocketed t-shirts are more expensive than those without pockets.
-
Color of garment (colors are more expensive than whites).
-
Number of ink colors
-
Location of prints i.e.: one side, two sides, sleeves, pant legs, etc.
Tips to reduce your cost of screen printing:
What is Direct-To-Garment Printing?
Direct-To-Garment has been around for a number of years. It is simply the applying of inkjet printing on your desirable garmet. It works much like your inkjet printer but at a much higher speed. All the colors are applied at the same time instead of one at a time in screen printing. It has become even more popular for several reasons:
Advantages
-
Cost effective price for lower quantities
-
Lower quantities allow for more creative designs
-
Quicker turn-around-time
-
Prints at a higher resolution (more detail) than screen printing
-
Good fit for those who need less than 100 garments printed
-
Can print on White, light, dark or black shirts
-
Design holds as well as garments screen printed
-
Design is sent Direct-To-Garment from computer. No screen required.
